Alan Mossman BArch MBSc MCIPD

Lean Construction researcher at Loughborough University and Director of UK lean design and lean construction consultancy The Change Business Ltd [ http://www.thechangebusiness.co.uk/TCB/Home.html ], Alan has coached  a number of teams implementing Lean and Last Planner in UK, Sweden, US, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. 

Alan is a part-time member of the international lean construction team at Loughborough University where he is involved in a research project studying the lean transformation of projects and organisations in design and construction. This is supported by studies of the co-evolution of product design and production system design to create target value design (TVD) for construction and of who makes money out of process waste in the end-to-end construction process.

He is a regular speaker and facilitator at Lean Construction conferences, congresses and seminars in the US and Europe.  His connection with colleagues in the global lean construction community in both the US and Europe and the European and International Groups for Lean Construction enables him to keep up to date with the continuing development of lean design & lean construction. 

Alan trained as an architect (Liverpool University School of Architecture) and then in management and organisation development (Manchester Business School).  After working in local government and higher education in a variety of roles, he has been a socio-technical systems consultant since 1988.  He only returned to construction in 2000 building on his knowledge and understanding of collaboration, systems thinking, variation, quality and lean.

A co-editor of the Lean Construction Journal, Alan is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, the Alliance of Deming Consultants, the International Group for Lean Construction and the European Group for Lean Construction. He was a director of the Lean Construction Institute UK from its inception until Mar 2010 and convened the steering group that formed Constructing Excellence Gloucestershire Club and served on the Club's executive until 2009.

Alan has written a number of papers on topics as ranging from Self Managed Learning, Outdoor Management Development and Construction Logistics as well as lean construction.  He is writing Lean Construction: People, Process and Production for Wiley.
