About
I completed my PhD at Exeter University in 2011, where my thesis focused on producing a new institutional history of HBO in the context of trends in media history. During my PhD I presented multiple conference papers on HBO, and I am currently adapting the thesis for publication.
My research generally focuses on industrial media history, with a particular interest in branding, exhibition and institutional development across film, television and other entertainment sectors. I am also interested in American independent cinema, the BBC, and the economic context of horror cinema.
Aside from HBO, I have recently presented papers on the marketing of Asian-American identity in Glee, and the relationship between theme parks and the work of Clive Barker.
I have previously published on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and gender, and Southland Tales and comic book adaptations. Forthcoming publications for 2012-2013 include articles and chapters on American independent cinema, Scottish cinema, the BBC in America, and contemporary horror cinema.
Future research projects include a study of the relationship between New York City and American independent cinema that will be informed by cultural geography, and further work on HBO.
