About
J. F. Torres Martínez, (Kechu) is BA HISTORY by the Complutense University of Madrid with a specialty in Prehistory, Archaeology and Ethnology. His dissertation developed a study about Cantabri’s Economy in Iron Age, topic that he treated again in his Doctorate’s Research work, amplifying his studies about the conception of time and territory. In 2008 he defended his doctoral thesis (“Late Protohistory Communities of the North of the Iberian Peninsula. Environment, Economy, Territory and Society”) under the direction of Prof. Dr. Mr Martín Almagro Gorbea, obtaining the maximum grade, “Summa Cum Laude”.
He has developed specialized studies in Protohistory Paleoeconomy and the relations between humans and environment exploitation, a topic on which he has published three books, several book chapters and articles. He has also exposed various communications about this topic in numerous Scientific Congresses. Within this research labor it stands out his Field Work in etnoarchaeology research, which he has been realizing about economic resources in the north of Iberian Peninsula. He has been a scholarship holder of the Oriol-Urquijo University Foundation, and he has also gained a scholarship in Formation of the Research Personnel in the Complutense University of Madrid.
He’s a founding member and vocal of the “Institute of Pre-roman and Ancient Studies” (IEPA). He’s also founding member of the “Monte Bernorio Institute of ancient studies of the Cantabric” (IMBEAC), institution of which he’s now president. He’s associated researcher of the Antiquities Office of the Spanish Royal Academy of History.
He directs, since 2004, along with Prof. Dr Martín Almagro-Gorbea, the “Monte Bernorio in its environment” Archaeological Research Project (Developed by IMBEAC, Antiquities Office of the Spanish Royal Academy of History, Complutense University of Madrid and other Public Institutions).
