Independent Researcher

About

My research interests lie in an understanding of women’s lived experiences and everyday practices in relations to their bodies.  Employing ‘embodied ethnography’, my previous research looked at how women made sense of their bodies and engaged in ‘looking good’ practices in a workplace context.  My current research remains embedded in qualitative approach, but has shifted towards an investigation of national drug policies.  The research seeks to understand how drug policies have been formulated and implemented in Thailand.  Throughout my fieldwork, I encountered an absence of gender sensitivity in the policies and practices.  In my future research I keen to explore an experience world of women drug users and wish to demonstrate how an understanding of women’s experiences can inform a policy agenda that ensures treatment and support mechanisms for women drug users in Thailand.

I hold a Ph.D. in Social Sciences (Sociology) from Loughborough University (www.lboro.ac.uk) in the UK.  I am currently working for Assumption University of Thailand (www.au.edu). I am a prime investigator for a three-year research project on “Policies and Practices in the Field of Drug Use/Abuse: The Catholic University in Dialogue with Political and Social Actors in Thailand”.  The project is funded by Fédération Internationale des Universités Catholiques (www.fiuc.org) in France.
