About

I'm a freelance composer and sound designer.  I write electroacoustic music and soundscapes for fixed media and for collaborative work with artists in other disciplines.  BA (Lancaster) in music and physics, MPhil (Birmingham) in composition.

I taught Sonic Art to Music undergraduates at Lancaster University and acted as External Examiner to the MA Sound Arts degree at the University of the Arts London (LCC) and the BA Music Practice degree at the University of Central Lancashire.

For 5 years I was an elected member of the Board of the Sonic Arts Network, and served as Company Secretary.

Until July 2011 I was employed at Lancaster University as the Deputy Director of PALATINE. I had a professional career for 20 years supporting innovative teaching and learning in higher education in performing arts subjects, particularly music, and in the use (and evaluation) of technology in teaching and learning.

I also served on the executive committee of the local association of UCU (and previously AUT) as both a case worker and as Branch Secretary.

I'm now employed part time by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) as 'Pilgrimage Coordinator' for the '1652 Country' - working to help Quakers and non-Quakers alike to deepen and broaden their spiritual life through engagement with early Quaker history and the landscape of North-West England.  I'm particularly interested in the uses of new technologies for education and outreach and in support of self-directed pilgrimage-making.

I'm also one of the two Quaker chaplains at Lancaster University.
