About
Luiz Naveda is graduated in Music (BA guitar, UEMG, 1999), Master in Musical Performance at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2002), Doctor of Art Sciences (Musicology) at Ghent University (2011) and currently a postdoctoral researcher at the same university. He has been working in the Arts field, with a historic of academic and professional activities in various sub-areas such as musical performance, movement analysis, dance analysis, interactive systems, computer music, music education, musical acoustics and psychoacoustics, sound design and preservation of sound archives. In recent years, he has been working on methods for the analysis of human gesture in dance and music, using data from audio and movement recordings. In January 2011, he has defended the PhD thesis entitled "Gesture in Samba”, which includes a series of experiments on music and dance of the Afro-Brazilian culture. Luiz Naveda is actually spending a sabbatical period in Brazil working on the realization of experiments and publications on Afro-Brazilian music, cognition, movement and dance.
