About
I am a self-taught avocational paleontologist.
My primary research interest is ichnology (the investigation of animal-substrate interactions). Much of my efforts have been dedicated at the study of trace fossils, sedimentology and stratigraphy of the Potsdam Group of southwestern Quebec, Ontario and northern New York State. The Potsdam Group is composed of conglomerates and sandstones ranging from Middle to Upper Cambrian. These sedimentary rocks were deposited in a wide variety of environments (continental, aeolian, fluvial, marginal and shallow marine).
This research aims at a better understanding of these environments and to asses the faunal and ichnofaunal diversity and distribution. The Potsdam is well know for its spectacular trace fossils, some of which represent the first evidence of animal activity on land. In addition, it also contains soft-bodied organisms (medusae), rare and primitive arthropods and several microbially induced sedimentary structures.
