English Lecturer/Trainer: English for Business, English for Academic Purposes and inter-cultural communication skills for business people
About
After qualifying as an English teacher in 1976, I taught in Leeds for four years before leaving Britain to teach abroad. Throughout my career, I have taught English Language and Literature, EFL, ESL, English for Business and English for Academic Purposes at language institutes, universities and multinational companies in Germany, Spain, Sweden, Norway and the UK, often holding positions of responsibility. I also speak German and Spanish.
My past employers include the Universities of Leeds, Lancaster, Exeter, Southampton and Bradford (English for Academic Purposes and IELTS preparation), the Folkuniversitet in Sweden (EFL and English for Specific Purposes), the Norwegian School of Management in Stavanger, Norway (English for Business and UK and US Cultural Studies for MBA students), and the government-run Official School of Languages (EOI) in Figueres, Spain (English for Catalan school teachers). From July to September 2011, I taught English for Academic Purposes on the pre-Masters Business and Management pre-sessional at the University of Bradford in the UK.
I currently reside in New York.
My interests include ancient and medieval history, literature, languages, archaeology, anthropology, astronomy, photography, playing squash, endurance hiking and martial arts. I am also the owner-moderator of the Flickr photography group Medieval Europe: http://www.flickr.com/groups/medievaleurope. My personal Flickr photostream (no people, just places), can be viewed at http://www.flickr.com/rhedae
