About
I'm a freelance researcher, writer and educator based in London.
My current research interests lie largely in the field of the philosophy of education. I currently have papers in preparation or under review on pedagogic humanism, teacher professionalism and accountability, reflective practice and the "communities of practice" model.
I am a director of Big Ideas Initiatives, which runs events that bring together academics with a wider public in open and constructive discussion. I also co-chair the Forum on Post-Compulsory Education at the Institute of Education (http://fpce.org.uk).
I have a PGCE and teach mathematics, literature, philosophy, ICT and music, mostly privately (see http://richardcochrane.com).
I've written books about poetry, web site design and guitar playing, and a large amount of music journalism including reviews, interviews and sleeve notes. I've given public talks on, among other things, logic, music, writing and psychogeography.
I co-wrote the two-man show "Align" with Robert Kingham, which has been performed at various venues including the Bridewell Theatre and the Museum of London. It's a multimedia talk about London history, prehistory, modernity and geography. See http://bigi.org.uk/align for details.
