I hold a PhD from James Cook University in Queensland, Australia, on the medicalization of deviant behavior in nonWestern countries. I have written extensively on Mass Sociogenic Illness ('mass hysteria') in such publications as the British Medical Journal, British Journal of Psychiatry, Psychological Medicine, and the Medical Journal of Australia.
My wife and I are leading a social movement against racism against Aborigines in the Northern Territory of Australia, where we lost teaching jobs after asking if the remote Aboriginal school we were at, was safe from asbestos. We did so after learning the school we were at was built on an asbestos burial site and we found a health inspector's report recommending immediate testing. The Northern Territory Education Department refused to disclose the test results or promptly confirm that the school had been cleared of asbestos. We later learned that all of the documents confirming the asbestos was removed, went missing, including wiped computer files and missing e-mails.
