Sedimentary records of storms and tsunamis in Jamaica
http://www.caribbeanenvironments.com
Current research in collaboration with Dr Michael Burn and Theresa Rodriguez (University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica) is aimed at reconstructing the environmental history and past washover activity in Jamaica. Coastal lagoons provide excellent repositories of marine washover events within the sediment record. There remains, however, an underrepresentation of these records within the Caribbean. To address this shortcoming a multi-site, multi-proxy project has recently been initiated at coastal lagoons on the south coast of Jamaica. This research aims to (1) provide records of washover events within the region, and (2) investigate the potential for attributing palaeowashover deposits to event type within the local setting.
PhD research (2005-2009, Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester, UK)
Establishing the accretionary history of a nearshore, turbid-zone coral reef in north Queensland, Australia. Resultant studies, based on Paluma Shoals reef complex in Halifax Bay, provided some of the most detailed chronological records of turbid-zone reef development developed to-date.
