About

I started my research on southern African hunter-gatherer rock art, in particular the shamanistic interpretation of that imagery. That research led me to the European Palaeolithic.  The shamanistic interpretation of hunter-gatherer rock arts has been very controversial, and I have recently explored the  basis of this controversy in two recent papers on southern African, Upper Palaeolithic and Spanish Levantine rock arts.

Various factors led me to Queer Theory, and these I outline in my various papers. A number of archaeologists have made use of Queer Theory in their research. I join other archaeologists in bringing the relevance and study of gender in archaeology to a wider audience.
