Beto has a Masters (2000) a PhD (2006) in Linguistics from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, Brazil; worked as a guest student and researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (2003-2004), Leipzig, Germany and as a Brazilian Lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University (2008-2010), Ile-Ife, Nigeria.

His main concerns are the investigation of language as a biological system and the relationships of science and other human and non-human cultures; have been working in the fileds of linguistics, cognitive sciences, evolutionary studies and anthropology of science; is father to Tabata and Ariel.
